Nyangath had received her Bachelor of Social Work and has graduated from the UAA Master of Social Work program with advanced standing during the Spring 2021 Commencement. She hopes to become like Kim, a person who dedicated her life to serving the unfortunate.
Social work master’s student Jay Greene (pronouns: they/them, he/him) believes in system reform through policy, as evidenced in their work with UAA’s LGBTQIA2S+ Committee and Gender Inclusive Housing Committee. Greene was a recipient of the Student Diversity Scholarship.
Set in beautiful northwest Alaska, Modern Subsistence is a documentary short by Ian Foster, a University of Alaska Anchorage School of Social Work master's student. Foster explores questions with modern hunter-gatherers in an effort to discover if/how ancient customs and modern society can coexist.
Even amidst a global pandemic slowdown, it’s been a productive year for Naidene Baechler. She will serve as the speaker for this fall’s graduate hooding ceremony after completing her Master of Social Work in May 2020. Merely one week after earning her degree, Baechler kicked off her career as program supervisor for the Knik Tribal Council (KTC).
Since 2014, the Municipality of Anchorage’s (MOA) Welcoming Anchorage project has been building a network between local businesses, organizations and the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation to recognize the contributions immigrants and refugees make to our city through economic, cultural and social impacts.
